Shel was a resident of Sunnybrook Veterans Cen- tre for the last few years, and he loved it when those veterans visited our branch. He often met up with his grandchildren during these visits. When Acton visited Sunnybrook, he was always waiting at the door to greet us, and was happy to see people who were close to his home of Georgetown. We always had our pic- ture taken with Shel before we left the hospital. We will certainly miss him. We thank him for his service. This year's Remem- brance Parade scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, has been cancelled. In its place, we are planning a scaled- down version of the Ceno- taph ceremony to take place on Wednesday, Nov. 11. What it will look like has yet to be decided, and will depend a lot on govern- ment guidelines in place at the time. Further informa- tion will be issued closer to the date. Our current Poppy fund is $20,990.55. At a meeting on Septem- ber 21 it was determined that, due to the ever-chang- ing regulations being is- sued by the government, we will not be able to open the branch for the foresee- able future. We will keep the membership informed as best we can, using social media. It is the time of year for the Remembrance Day Contest of the Royal Cana- dian Legion. The contest consists of a literary com- ponent and a poster con- test. The Acton schools have graciously done this each year. Students can submit posters, poems and essays on own if they wish or through your school. If anyone requires further in- formation, please contact Peggy Graham at rclbr197@cogeco.net. First place winners are submit- ted to zone and then if they win there go to District, Provincial and Dominion Command. We appreciate all entries. This is a fantas- tic way for students to show appreciation for our veterans as we remember them through pictures and stories or poetry.
