ClubLink, the largest owner and opera- tor of golf clubs in Canada, continues to in- vestigate what it calls a "racist" incident that occurred at the club on Saturday, Oct. 10. A Halton Regional Police investigation is also underway. The incident occurred between two groups of golfers when, it appeared, one of the groups was becoming frustrated with the other group's time being spent at each hole. "Clearly there was an altercation with at least two people in one group using rac- ist language toward another person or golfing group," ClubLink, which operates Georgetown Golf Club, said in a Facebook post Saturday night (Oct. 10). "We are ap- palled by this behaviour and explicitly condemn it. Any incidents with members or guests involving racism will not be tol- erated." Videos of the incident have been circu- lating on social media. The footage was taken by Brampton resident Gursher Dhillon, a member of the club, who was with at least one other per- son when the incident occurred. It appears to show parts of a heated confrontation, be- tween Dhillon and another group, in which an older man hurls a racial slur at Dhillon. Dhillon said he posted the video be- cause he "wanted to bring awareness" to the issue of racism. Efforts to reach the man who allegedly used the racial slur in the video have been unsuccessful. The Halton Hills Alliance for Social Change is also asking the club and other agencies to take "immediate action" about the incident. Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette weighed in on the incident, tweeting "no excuse for this behaviour." Halton Regional Police Const.
