EHS photo THE WAY WE WERE We are fast approaching the Christmas season, one which will be quite differ- ent this year in the midst of a pandemic not getting much better. The Hillsview Active Living Centre in George- town has altered its Christ- mas schedule. Our fund- raiser, the annual Christ- mas bazaar, is cancelled, but in its place we are offer- ing a Christmas silent auc- tion. It will run until Decem- ber 11 at 12 p.m. The craft ladies are selling their handmade items. It's a good time to pick up a puzzle, books and DVDs. Drop into the centre any time between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and place your bid on one of the many items available. Another of the popular Christmas customs at the centre, the Christmas tur- key dinner, has been changed to a Christmas dinner "drive-thru." For a $20 ticket purchased from reception, you can come on Monday, December 14 at 11:30 a.m. and pick up a pip- ing hot dinner of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, vegetables and gravy. There will be a few spots in the centre if you wish to eat there, but you will need to let Sherry know this when you purchase your ticket. As I wrote in my last col- umn, we are a charitable organization. One of the ways we are able to keep our organization going is through our memberships. As of Dec. 31, the 2020 mem- berships are up and 2021 memberships are due. We are aware that under the present setup some of you may feel you didn't get your money's worth, but this pandemic will end some- time and, in the meantime, we need your co-operation and ask that you continue to pay your membership. Please give it serious thought. For the month of De- cember, there will be a movie every Friday begin- ning at 12:30 p.m. The kitch- en is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week. Drop in for a coffee. It seems that there are a slew of new scams about. Please be careful and promise them nothing un- til you have checked it out. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. However you plan Christmas this year, make it the best you can and, above all else, stay safe. The centre will be closed at noon Thursday, Dec. 24, and will reopen Monday, Jan. 4, 2021, at 9 a.m. Florence Riehl is an active member of the Hills- view Active Living Centre in Georgetown.
