NEWS WHAT'S GOING ON THIS WEEKEND November 11 was a qui- et, muted affair, with no ca- dets or schoolchildren pre- sent. Not surprisingly, people still gathered to watch the executive and selected team of ceremonial partici- pants attend to their du- ties. We say thank you to all who attended and to the re- spectful way you acted. All wore masks and all kept their distance. Thank you also to Acton for the way you responded to our poppy drive. The en- thusiasm shown by the lo- cal community was amaz- ing, including local busi- nesses, like Sweet Molly's and Red Harp, that sold our merchandise, schools and individuals who had fund drives and, of course, the Legion team -- pulled to- gether by Billy Mathers -- who got the boxes out there and counted the returns. Another team of out- standing volunteers helped Lynda Fischer put together the drive-by Swiss Chalet dinner, which was enjoyed by 173 people. The drive-by went smoothly, and Lynda is grateful to the team who responded to the call for help. We hope to do another curbside (or Kerbside) pickup dinner soon. Peggy tells me that we received many entrants for this year's Remembrance Day art and poetry compe- tition, with many excellent entries. We will post the names of all the winners on social media. A new ship- ment of Legion masks has arrived. Call me at 519-853- 8224 if you'd like one. Please check the web- page at legion197.com, and in addition we will be post- ing information on Face- book.
