Job Opportunities The mayor of Halton Hills wants to see an end to hate crimes in the region - so much so that he's put his money where his mouth is. In light of a recent inci- dent of racism - a swastika painted on George Kenne- dy Public School - Mayor Rick Bonnette has donated $2,000 to Crime Stoppers of Halton Inc. to be used to as- sist in the investigation of hate crimes. "To put it bluntly, I am quite distressed that there have now been multiple re- ported incidents of racism in Halton Hills," Bonnette said. "This is not represen- tative of what this commu- nity stands for and I urge people to contact Crime Stoppers if they know any- thing." Halton Regional Police Services Chief Stephen Tanner said the service al- ways investigates hate crimes to the fullest extent possible. "There is no place for hate anywhere in the Re- gion of Halton or in our so- ciety," Tanner said. "I am thankful to Mayor Bon- nette and the members of town council for speaking out against these offensive incidents." Colin Jessome, execu- tive director of the Halton chapter of Crime Stoppers, said the financial support was important to offer in- centives for people to come forward. "Having the mayor ad- vocate for the community to utilize Crime Stoppers to address hate crimes is a significant step in getting the message out that these are unwelcome and crimi- nal actions." Crime Stoppers is an in- dependent charitable orga- nization that works with the public, police and me- dia to deter and solve crime with guaranteed anonymi- ty. Tips may be submitted anonymously either online or by telephone at 1-800-222- TIPS (8477). NEWS 'NOT ...
