"It is more important now, than ever before, that we take the time to ac- knowledge the legacy of Black Canadi- ans and contributions of Black writers as we seek to foster a united, inclusive and equitable society," said Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette. Among the highlights of the town's Black History Month's online pro- grams are: • A virtual lecture series, Tracing Black Lives in Guelph 1890-1945, by Dr. Jade Ferguson, an associate professor at the University of Guelph • Video interviews by Francesca Durham from Culture Days 2020 with artist Mosa McNeilly and hop-hop art- ist Promise, an Acton native • Family story times featuring Black authors and illustrators • A selection of artwork from the Helson Gallery's past group exhibition by the Halton Black History Awareness Society for Emancipation Day 2019 • #ReadingBlackout will have li- brary staff sharing books and informa- tion by Black writers on teen and adult social media channels To see a full listing of the town's Black History Month programs, with dates and details on how to participate, visit haltonhills.ca/culture.
