We mourn the loss of three comrades -- Connie Fix, Ed Molody and John Civiero. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families. Our condolences also go out to Brian Campbell and family in the loss of Anne. We recently received a letter from Ron Goebel, who is the chair of the Mili- tary Service Recognition Book Program. Ron and his team are now accepting sub- missions for Vol. #8 of this publication. If you are a veteran or family member of a person who served in the Canadian Armed Forces, Commonwealth or Allied Forces, we would like to hear your story. Even if the veteran in question is now de- ceased. You can contact the branch by email. Membership dues can be dropped in mailbox at rear entry door ($60 cash or cheque). Lois Bugula is not a member of the Legion. She, however, is a member of the local seniors centre, Hillsview, where Joan and I have known her for many years. Lois creates beautiful homemade greet- ings cards, which she sells and donates her profits to the centre. At Christmastime, she had no one to sell her cards to, so using a contact through the centre, she sent 101 cards to the veterans at Sunnybrook. In a most gracious thank you letter she received recently, Lois was told her cards touched the hearts of veterans, who espe- cially liked the fact that each card had the Canadian flag showing on it. Branch #197 sent a $1,000 donation, but we were not able to visit our vets at Sunnybrook this year. In a way, Lois did that for us. Thank you, Lois. Please check the webpage at le- gion197.com, and in addition we will be posting information on Facebook. You can also email the branch at rclbr197@cogeco.net. David Maloney is the public relations officer for the Acton Legion, Branch 197. He can be reached at rclbr197@cogeco.net.
