Keep following us on & north halton kitten rescue IT MAY NOT BE KITTEN SEASON... BUT WE STILL HAVE CATS! Pretty intelligent Hope is looking for a patient female owner. Coyote submitted photo A family in Acton were feeding a stray cat unaware that she was nursing kittens. When she was unintentionally disturbed and had relocated her kittens to under shrubs on a neighboring lawn, NHKR was contacted. With help from neighbors the mom and kittens were corralled and taken into foster care. Her kittens were adopted and now momma would also like a home. Her foster mom named her Hope, recognizing that Hope had been traumatized and would require a tremendous amount of socializing to rekindle her confidence and redevelop her trust towards people. Previous to being a stray cat, Hope was a house cat as she is familiar with household sounds and she does not wish to return outdoors. It is equally obvious that she was mistreated. Sadly, Hope remains fearful of men and children. During her year in foster care she has become affectionate and interactive with her foster mom. Hope would enjoy a new home with a quiet patient woman and perhaps an older friendly cat - she is passive with other cats. When introduced to something new, Hope carefully observers her surrounds before she ventures out of a secure space. But when she feels safe she comes for attention. Hope is a young cat about 3 years old, so she is playful and enjoys physical interaction when she is playing. She is especially fond of head scratches and belly rubs. Hope will allow being picked up and held for short durations - the duration increasing as she develops more trust. When she is feeling safe her purring is non-stop and she has started to make quiet happy sounds. Hope enjoys being close to her foster mom and will allow herself to be relocated on to her lap to receive attention and sometimes for short naps. Hope is tidy with her food and litter box areas. Surprisingly she allows her nails to be trimmed with no protesting. She loves her cat climber, always using it to scratch and the cubby hole is one of her safe places. When pushed too far or startled, Hope communicates with a gently swat or nip that causes no harm. She is a passive girl and fear triggers these reactions. Hope has made incredible progress from when she arrive in foster care as a protective frightened mom and she needs someone to continue her progress, towards ultimately becoming a happy confident cat. Artists in Halton Hills may be eligible for up to $1,000 in support of new, community-engaged art- work. The Town of Halton Hills' The Artist Next Door program is now in its sec- ond year, providing funds for artists living or work- ing in Halton Hills of any artistic discipline. The pro- gram is available for indi- vidual artists, teams or col- lectives, cultural business- es, and arts and culture groups and organizations. The stream of financial support was established last year as part of the Town's COVID-19 response. Successfully funded works included music, theatre, vi- sual arts, and dance. "The success of this pro- gram has been two-fold," Mayor Rick Bonnette said. "Our local artists have dis- played exceptional creativ- ity and resourcefulness in engaging the residents of Halton Hills, fostering con- nection, and building com- munity throughout the pandemic. "Equally important, The Artist Next Door pro- gram provides support for our local artists in what has been a very challeng- ing year for the cultural sector."
