Statement of Cultural Heritage Value or Interest: The Old Post Office and Customs House at 70 Mill Street has physical and design value as an excellent example of Art Deco civic architecture within the Town of Halton Hills. The property is associated with prominent Canadian architects J.E. Walker and J.G. Elliot, as well as local contractor J.B. Mackenzie. The Old Post Office and Customs House is a landmark within Georgetown’s historic downtown, defining the lower end of the central business district at the intersection of Mill Street and Park Avenue and supporting the historic character of the area. It is physically and historically linked to its surroundings and speaks of the former importance of this building to the history of Georgetown. Statement of Cultural Heritage Value or Interest: The property at 29 Edith Street has design and physical value as demonstrated by the original clubhouse (log cabin) and the storage shed (stable) being representative examples of vernacular log structures commonly found in southern Ontario in the first half of the 19th century. The property also has historical and associative value due to its original connections to the McKane family of Chingacousy Township through the relocation of the log cabin and stable and for its continued use as a recreational lawn bowling clubhouse facility since 1917, with minimal intrusions and alterations to both the log cabin and stable since their relocation in the early twentieth century. The property also has contextual value as the Georgetown Lawn Bowling clubhouse has been a landmark on Edith Street since 1917.
