The election of a new mayor for Halton Hills comes off the heels of Rick Bonnette’s 19- year reign as mayor for the Town until his an- nouncement, made in December 2021, that he would not be seek- ing re-election. During the election, former councilor Law- Jor for Ward 4 cam- paigned on a number of priorities such as strong leadership, com- and it was those priori- ties that saw her win the October 24th election with a total of 5,323 votes, or just 40.67 percent of votes cast for the top job. When looking at results for Ward 1, which serves ton, there were some changes made in a three- way race that saw in- cumbent Mike Albano and new councilor Alex Hilson voted in to repre- sent the ward. Fellow incumbent Jon Hurst did not win his bid for re- election after serving 19 years for the Acton ward. Prior to running in the race for councilor, Hil- son was the Downtown Acton BIA manger from 2020 to 2022, guiding businesses through the turbulent times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
