Halton Hills Hydro dis- covered a billing system er- ror that resulted in cus- tomers being overcharged for the past four years and reported it to the Ontario Energy Board. Credits to- talling $450,500, the total amount overcharged, will be provided to current cus- tomers. Halton Hills Hydro President and CEO Scott Knapman said the credit will be applied during the November billing cycle. Halton Hills initiated a review of its billing system after another slectricity distributor reported an ror to the OEB. The review discovered a similar error in Halton Hills Hydro's bill- ing, which it reported the OEB. Halton Hills charges a r, the billing system trans- laved the charges into a dai- arge. "In the translation from monthly to a daily charge, the daily charge was calcu- lated based on there being 30 days in every month (or ar), but billed to customers 365, ment on the Halton Hills Hydro site. As a result, customers were billed for an extra five days each year. The state- ment on its website says Halton Hills Hydro is "work- ing with the Ontario Energy Board to titution snout to be pro- vided to our customers." Halton Hills Hydro sub- mitted an Assurance of olunt: ompliance (AVC) to the Ontario Ener- gy Board. An AVCisa bind- ing commitment to take measures to rectify or pre- vent non-compliance. In addition to providing a credit to its current cus- tomers, Halton Hills Hydro will pay an administrative penalty of $5,000. The sys- tem error that led to the overcharging was correc- ted for bills beginning May 2.
