A sluggish economy has made student job hunting very difficult this year. By JAMIE HARRISON The Canada Employment Centre for Students in Georgetown held their Hire-A-Student-Day, at- tracting students and employers to check out the centre’s job board in hopes of landing a source of employment for the remainder of the summer, Friday. Area businesses chipped in to give the centre a hand by adver- tising the event on store front marquees. Nobody has to tell high school and post-secondary education students that the job market for those seeking summer employment or part-time work is brutal. It’s no secret that the recession has taken its toll on almost every facet of the Canadian mes and students are no exception. However, leading economic in- icators show that’ things may be picking up. So far this year, the Georgetown office has accepted placements from 93 Possible employers to fill positions ranging from sales representatives, to telemarketers, photographers to stock clerks. Of the 93 employers, several are offering numerous positions, all of which can be viewed at the employ- ment centre until August 1, 1992. The Canada Employment Centre for Students is located at HALTION HILLS SOUTH COMMUNITY CONSULTATION COMMITTEE The Halton Hills South Community Consultation Committee is a group of citizens, and police officers who meet on a regular basis to identify community concerns and establish an effective joint response to eliminate the concerns. The concerns addressed can range from something as simple as a parking problem, to something as com- plex as a series of Break and Enters. Committee Mandate The Halton Hills South Community Consultation Committee is established to: 1) Increase information sharing between the police and the community. 2) Identify Community/Police concerns and initiate programs to overcome or eliminate them. 3) Alter the misconception that the police are inaccessible to the public.
