In the Tyke final, the Dodger pitching staff completely shut down the vaunted Angel offence for a 12- 1 victory. Tease Viens, Matt Walker, Paul Dimarco and Simon Ford combined to no-hit the Angels. Offensive punch was supplied by Derek Douey Mitchell and Wayne Meinen, who each had a triple sin- gle and two runs-batted in. Daniel Szlachta also drilled a triple and drove in two runs, as did Paul Dimarco, who added a double. Simon Ford, Matt Walker and Jesse Viens chipped in with singles. Phillip Stocks hustled a routine ground ball into a run with some bold baserunning. Brad Naylor showed patience at the plate draw- ing three walks and scoring two tuns, including a theft of home plate. Scott Graham, Jamey Doole and Shane Maradino added key leader- ship in this complete team win. squirt final, the Cardinals won the title with a 21-15 win over the Elliott Custom Brokers Pirates, who finished the regular season in first place. The Cardinals displayed a wicked offence as Vince Burke, Shawn McCullock, Zack Hess, Corey Nilsson, Craig Seitz, Dave Penney, Alana Perkin, Scott Rostrup and Kyle MclIlvenna all had four hits. Mcllvenna slugged a homer and also made a fantastic bare-handed catch of a hard line drive while at pitcher. Robbie Alcorn and Chris Henderson each belted three hits for the Pirates while Jordan Scuralli Played well defensively and offen- ively. 877-0721 BBQ HEADQUARTERS @ Steaks Burgers @ Chicken @ Fish @ Shrimp @ Party Items Desserts Delrex & Guelph Sts. Neither failing light nor misty rain can keep an avid soccer team from playing. Armstrong Insurance and Andrew Murray Motors showed up with less than full strength teams but played on to a 3-1 score for the Motors. Chrissy Pereira scored one for the Armstrong Insurance while Leah Crane netted two for the Motors and Laura Shields added one for good measure. A ball to the head didn’t stop Laura Casey while Rachael McBride and the rest of the team all played well with “mist” on their faces. The rain didn’t stop ref- eree Rob Timmings either. He had a hat to keep the rain off, so he could see the plays. The Burger Kings were hungry at Mackenzie-Smith field in Acton. Kira Lawrence scored 3 goals and Jamie Ellis netted one her way right away to put the final score at 4-1. The game was closer than the score appears as the Recochem. Turbos were charged up. Tamara Gilmore got the Turbo goal and the team kept the pressure on. The great Recochem players of the game were Sharilyn Kogan, Jennifer McBean and Julie Thompson. Noteworthy for the Burgers were Jennifer Murray, Michelle Smythe and Katey Lee. Thanks to substitute coach M. Salton. Elks Lodge gave Millieres TV a tun for the money this week as the skills of the summer are starting to show. Playing well for the Elks were Ellen Smith who charged the goal several times, Melanie Sherren who has developed some good defensive kicks and Karen Zomer with end to end play. Goal scorer for the Elks was unreported but Ashleigh Dunlop got a goal for the Millieres side and Charlene Roche got 3. Michelle, Keri and Shannon Hofing all had their dials tuned to defense for Millieres TV for that final 4-1 score. Under 10 Girls Rep Team The one hot Saturday of the sum- mer saw the Under 10 girls playing at the Youth All-Star Soccer tourna- ment in Etobicoke. Playing 11 per side is a new experience for the girls. The first game resulted in a 4-0 score for Newmarket. Although the Georgetown Reps started with a strong first half, the Newmarket team kept the pressure on and kept shooting at the goal. The second game against Scarboro United was exciting to watch. After Scarboro scored in the first half, Bethan Elliott on a pass from Janine Taylor retaliated with a ball in the Scarboro net. Rebecca Culp was kept busy Continued on page 23
