KIDS’ page Carls. Company Limi Bino D: Sa Brampton 457-2813 * Georgetown 873-2277 1959 Strange tales For all of those avid Comic Junkies out there, Captain Comic has some incredibly sad news. There are evil forces at work against my mission: to supply comics to all Comic Junkies. It would seem that the sinister corpo- ration of mutant delivery boys more commonly known as U.P.S. has found secret shipments of comics and hidden them within their lair of lost shipments (sounds scary). What I’m trying to say is that once again there will be nothing new on the shelves until next week (sniff sniff). But bear with me all those who stand for truth, justice, and reading really cool comics because Captain Comic will rise above and take out the Evil Mutant Delivery joys. Now listen here, you’re going to hate me for this but for some of you school starts next week and Captain Comic would really appreciate see- ing all his Comic Junkies kicking major butt in their classes. That means no reading comics during class, besides most teachers will ditch your comics in the trash (I shutter at the thought). You can read them after school okay? Good. I would like to ask you, the most respectable public and Captain Comic fan, if you would like to see a comic strip on this very page of “The Adventures of Captain Comic and infamous Comic Junkies”. If you would, write me a letter to the. address below with your answer. I think it would be cool and I'd like to know what you think. Now I have something of mon- strous importance to discuss with you today. It involves the almighty dollar and the comic book and the importance the two seem to have when spoken in the same sentence. Has anybody heard of the Wizard? Well, if not, it is a new price guide on the market that has caught the eye of the comic book collector. —One reason for its popularity is the trading card. The first in the set was a “Youngblood” card #0 which is now worth over $6. Not bad con- sidering the magazine costs only $4.95! Other reasons for its cool- by Captain Comic ness are the fact that it has plenty of articles on cards, comics, toys and other neat stuff such as a top 10 hero/villain list. On the other hand, there is the more traditional Overstreet price guide that has been around for over ten years. It contains a “What’s hot/what’s not” list from different comic stores. It is released quarterly whereas the Wizard is released monthly. The dilemma is this: which one to trust? When dealing with a guide always remember this — it is only a guide. The Overstreet has been around longer so, there- fore, it is more stable. The Wizard is fairly new yet it gives a monthly update on comic prices. In situations such as these I always remind people of something called intrinsic value. This is some- thing like sentimental value where a comic book is dear to someone for a certain reason. If you simply love Alf then Alf #1 would be worth a million dollars to you. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way in the real world. So when try- ing to judge the value of any comic, use the guide as a guide. Then take into consideration its worth to you as an individual. You’ll be sur- prised with the final value you may end up with! Remember, kids” pages are not just for kids. This is Captain Comic from the Fourth Dimension with another Strange Tale.
