The World Cup 1994 attempt is important for us with the tourney set in USA. Whether this was a good move or not is up to yourself. However, the Canadian opposition is from Jamaica, El Salvador and Bermuda. The other group contains Mexico, Honduras and the winner of two matches — Surinam/St. Vincent evenings (Wednesday). In town we have Blazers vs. United at Alcott at 7 p.m., Meteor Vs Gunners at around 8:30 p.m., and Mariners Vs. Ajax at Cedarvale at about 8:30 p.m. Eagles travel to Villa and Stingers to Hare & Hounds and Milton to Meadowvale. If all the results are in I would not have to guess so much. However, I believe that Merseyside and Mariners qualify for semi-finals together Halton Hills soccer fans were treated to a full day of events at Cedarvale Park Saturday as teams competed in league finals. Thank you for your generosity! The instructional sessions of the youth bowling leagues at anata Bowl across from the Georgetown Market Mall started on Saturday morning. With 26 new beginning bowlers joining the complement of last sea- son’s members, it will be the edge required to increase the number of championships that our boys and * OTHER BRANDS AVAILABLE * FAST * FULL SERVICE girls annually win. The Senior division start their first “get acquainted” session on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. with as many as 16 new additions join- ing last year’s competitors. The Juniors section had a few top scores made by Danny Morris 553(228), Andrew Terrell 548(217), Adam Scuralli 504(190) and Matthew Walker 500(177). The Bantam division produced primary tops by Richard Gostlin 453(166), Matthew. Rodgers 404(152), Chad Conrad 389(157), Gordon Everett 364(155), Michael Cluney 363(147), Jordon Scuralli 362(137) and Gordon Clarke 360(143). The PeeWees section (ages 7-8) had Lisa Clarke leading with 267(99), Blake Mandarino 259(102) and William Walker 242(94). The Smurfs — 4 to 6 year olds — made an impressive start as shown by Rachael Nelissen 188, Stephanie Palichuk 188, Robert Damphousse 184, Grant Mandarino 176 and Wesley Clarke 175. Many of last season’s bowlers were finishing their championship finals in baseball and soccer but will soon be out to boost the high scores. Nevertheless, there is still time for new and beginning bowlers to join and receive instruction from “Master Bowler” members before the formation of teams. and Costa Rica/Panama. As a Scot, I know all about Costa Rica, do not remind me. Canada’s first game is against Jamaica on 18 October and the return is in Toronto’s Varsity Stadium on 1 November. This is the only home game slated for the Toronto area and a full support is desired. Tickets my be had through George Baines, until they run out at a preferred price of $15. It is dearer to pay at the gate on the day of the game. Hope to see you there. Maybe I can correct something, now that I mention George. Falcons’ Peel Halton Final has not been played yet. My date was wrong. The game is this Saturday. Something else incorrect is the ground named last column. The correct ground is Brampton some- where, players and coach Dave Maloney should know — they could not recall at Friday night at Joe Clare’s “stag” night. There was a big turn out for that event and I hope it was a success. Joey’s jug- gling with three golf balls almost broke his nose! Enough of that. Good Luck against Malton, lads. I shall be finalizing again at the Ontario Cup. Two days of finals are gone by so far. Burlington have appeared in five finals and won two and lost three. Brampton are one win with one to play, Mississauga are one down with one to play Oakville are 1-1 in appearances and Malton have yet to play. Peel Halton clubs contest or have con- tested a total 11 finals out of 14 and provided 13 teams. Next Saturday closes out the Ontario Cup for the season. The youth finals are hopefully reported elsewhere, and took place at Cedarvale with another day this Saturday to finish off. The Inter-County plays its last round robin ties of the playoffs this Don't Forget Your Discount Card - Aah -Get 1 for * OIL CHANGES with Meteor and either United or Gunners (depending on results of this evening’s matches) from the first division. Eagles and Meadowvale, Hare & Hounds and PRPA qualify from the second divi- sion for semi-finals. Dates, fields and times for the semis are not yet settles as we pen this lot. Diego Maradona’ suspension for drug use is now over and clubs are trying to entice the 31-year-old back to the field. His contract is with Naples and he is reputed to owe them around $5-million or $6- million and they are not too keen to release him for no return. Naples are apparently insisting that the player finishes his contract with them and he is reluctant to return from his place in Argentina. My thought is — who would want him? If only for the gate money perhaps it may be worth it. Soccer has returned to televi- sion’s TSN and no sign of any on the new “all sports” radio station, FAN 1430. We can but hope, even if forlornly. I think that the term “all sports” means 24 hours as opposed to all sports. It is an inter- esting concept and should be a suc- cess no matter what is broadcast. We can expect the Leafs, Argos and Jays to dominate as the name teams in the Toronto area, and I do like to see them all win and play well. But, what about the Blizzard? For the moment Blizzard are out of the CSL playoff picture after being fined three points for a brawl in London, who also lost three points. Only four weeks ago, Blizzard were at the forefront of the league and managed to do what the Argos and Leafs are famous for — losing down the stretch. I believe that the club has protested the pun- ishment. Should the protest be upheld they may yet make the play- offs. CORNER OF MOUNTAINVIEW RD. N. & ARMSTRONG AVE., GEORGETOWN 877-9394
