Dept. news : by Alex Tough Tl Apple Autoglass Georgetown Flacons seniors made their first ever Peel-Halton soccer league final appearance just last Saturday. The opposition came from undefeated Malton, a strong, ball playing outfit. The first half belong to Falcons with some spirit- ed play, almost classical in perfor- ance. No doubt the lads best start to a game all season. A Derek Oram goal gave Falcons the half time lead. They may well have been better not to have had a break as Malton regrouped to equalize and then lead. In the end a cred- itable display is going down 1-3. Regrettably, coach Dave Maloney was unable to be present due to ill- ness. Coach is at home now resting and he would have been prouder of his squad had he seen them play their hearts out. The Inter County league champi- onship, first division, has gone to Ancient Mariners following a com- mittee decision on the Gunners v Meteor match at the end of July. The clubs claimed an exhibition took place and Meteor ‘claimed’ the points for a default win. However, after a prolonged investi- gation the subcommittee did not agree and no points were awarded for this game. An appeal by Meteor was not upheld by the league general committee last Thursday. The end result of all the stramash is that Mariners win by one point from Meteor with Merseyside third. The second division is won by Meadowvale with Eagles second and Hare & Hounds third.
