Cwe2-094 Associate Broker** 873-3377 CIBC, Arnies in grid title game By Leanne Fournier In semifinal action last Sunday, both games proved to be playoff football at its best. CIBC and Arnies earned championship berths after defeating Living Lighting and Burns respectively in ialaae © Ladies Flag Football act Someone forgot to ve Living Lighting that CIBC had a perfect, record going into Sunday’s contest. CIBC got on the scoreboard first with a Colleen Price 50-yard pass and run play. Living Lighting marched back with a Heather Price field goal. Just prior to the half, CIBC was dealt a serious blow when premiere teceiver-defender Marg Walinga down with a season-ending knee injury. Monica Mastalerz chipped in with a field goal before halftime. The second half saw the same tenacious Living Lighting squad stop an otherwise powerful CIBC offence. Lisa Stockfish scrambled into the end zone to tie the game. CIBC marched the length of the single. Living Lighting remained calmed and composed with three plays left in the game. A big gainer by oceans Harrison gave her team the field possession it needed. Jennifer Palmer pulled in a pass on the final play of regulation time that the offi- cials ruled was a touchdown, and the convert tied the score to force overtime and put CIBC’s perfect season on the line. Price broke the tie for CIBC with another 50-yard pass and run play. Living Lighting’s Harrison injured herself and pulled herself for a series of offensive plays. Jennifer, Palmer scrambled for a Living Lighting TD, but the convert was missed. Carey Brabant and Leanne Fournier each pulled in intercep- tions for the CIBC cause. The second playoff game proved to be just as tight. Brenda Hamilton of Burns scored a touchdown just minutes after the opening kickoff with a 50-yard pass and run play. Carol Kovacevic picked off a pass for Arnies to enable Judy Grinberg to score a touchdown. The half ended in a stalemate after Hamilton pulled in an interception for Burns. As fate would have it, Burns was held deep in its zone and had to punt. Michelle Vellinga blocked the punt, and recovered it for the touch- jown. Burns wouldn’t say die as they threatened on the Arnies 10-yard line. Grinberg dashed Arnies’ hopes for the tie with an intercep- tion to dismantle the Burns offence the win.
