PAGE 10 THE ACTON MONTHLY VOLUME 1, ISSUE 6 Acton Food Share continues to serve despite inflation challenges The cost of living and high inflation has caused quite a challenge for almost everyone who tries to get the most out of a dollar, including the Acton Food Share. While the level of donations had been quite good during the December holiday season, Acton Food Share Chair- person, Mike Albano, says donations have slowed down significantly since then due to two contributing factors. “Traditionally, this time of year, things do slow down. Donations have dropped considerably. They dropped considerably because of the time of the year and also because of inflation, the cost of food.” According to Albano, getting the same quantity of food for a certain monetary amount has become trickier as the value of a dollar no longer has the same buying power than it once did. “The donations that we'd normally get, the back [of the Food Share] would be piled full of food. In the donation we do get, we're not getting as much in a bag than what we used to get.” Despite donations being down, Albano states that the Food Share still has a mandate to fulfill of ensuring each and every client gets the food they need, even if it means the Food Share having to buy those items. “I can say that we are never in a situation where we run out of food, that we cannot provide food. If we run out of food, we are in a position where we can buy food to accommodate the need.’ While the Food Share has been digging a bit into its pockets, Albano is grateful for the support that countless organizations have provided as they deal with an increase in clientele during these tough times. Even though the Food Share is experiencing a rise in clients accessing the service and a lower number of donations, Albano ensures that anyone who is in need of food will not be turned away.
