PAGE2 THE ACTON MONTHLY VOLUME |, ISSUE 6 Bits & Pieces of Acton News e Former Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette will be honoured for his years of political service by having the community hall at the Acton Arena renamed after him. Halton Hills Council voted unanimously, at a meeting on March 6th, to rename the community hall at the Acton Arena and Community Centre after the former mayor. The motion was brought forward by Councillor Clark Somerville, with Mayor Ann Lawlor seconding the motion. Bonnette was a councillor for Halton Hills starting in 1982, and during his time as councillor, he was the fundraising co-chair to raise money to construct the Acton Arena & Community Centre which opened in 1998. Bonnette later went on to serve, starting in 2003, as the Town's mayor. He continued to serve as mayor for 19 years until his retirement in October 2022. ¢ The Activan shuttle service now extended, as of April 1st, to the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. The Town of Halton Hills made the decision to extend the shuttle for patients receiving treatment at OTMH as over 1,200 residents accessed the service during a trial run in 2022. The extended service will also serve students enrolled in the Halton District School Board’s Project SEARCH, a school-to-work training program for students with disabilities.
