The opening leg of The Count B Series (2 year old pacing colts; non-winners of $12,000 lifetime as of midnight, 31 Aug.) went post- ward on Sunday night at Mohawk. Daylon Crusoe took over for a :29.3 opening quarter, and clocked fractions of :58.1, 1:28.4 enroute to a commanding three length 1:58.1 win in the first $9,000 division. Mike Saftic guided the Armbro Splurge colt to his third win in 17 starts for trainer, Fred Hoffman. Marilarts Ayjay was second and Forrest roadster was third. Regular Guy paced a wire-to- wire 1:58.3 effort in the second $9,000 Count B division, nosing out Ritchies Imperial at the finish line. Whiteland Sam was four lengths back in third. It was Regular Guy’s 6th win in 12 outings in the year and he’s trained and co-owned by Ed McHale along with Darrell Munro, John Macera, Marmatt Farms and William Thornton. The son of Frugal Gourmet was driven by Roger Mayotte. Ken Col Jazz, a Jazz Cosmos gelding, trotted a 2:01.3 effort in the $25,000 Free For All Trot over Fax Machine and Parsippany. Roger Mayotte was in the bike for trainer Jim Coles. It was his 6th win in 20 starts and his purse account increased to just under $50,000. Fred Hoffman scored the training triple on Sunday night with Daylon Crusoe (race 2), B T’s Magic (race 7) and Talldarkandhandsome (race Dig Us Out, Monkey Business, Hoffy’s Hurricane to the gate on Saturday. Friday night the General Brock series for three year old trotters (non-winners of $30,000 lifetime as of 31 Aug./92) went postward in two $9,000 divisions. My Worthy Champ, a Worthy Bowl colt came from the back of the pack to get up for a five and a half length 2:01 win over Crymerc and Polished Stone. Tom Strauss was in the bike for trainer Rob Hummel. Royal Ballad nosed out Cricket Hanover for the 2:01.2 mile in the second General Brock division for driver Larry Walker, and trainer John Drennan. Also on Friday night, Staying Together just keeps rolling as he scored his fourth consecutive win in the $18,000 three year old open over Bullvons Dream and Shore Patrol. Tom Strauss guided the Panorama gelding to the 1:53.4 vic- tory for trainer Jack Parson. It was his 17th win in 28 starts and the win bumped his seasons earnings to $188,862 for owner Bob Hamather. Monday night two $29,295 Ontario Sires Stakes events for two year old trotting colts went post- ward. In first division, trainer- driver-owner Bill Wellwood’s colt, Armbro Leader, trotted a 2:03 two and a quarter length win over B Cor CJ with Sal’s Image third. It was win number 9 in 15 starts for the Balanced Image gelding and gives him $286,869 on the year. Syllabus highstepped a 2:03.2 wire-to-wire victory over Marks Marathon and Daddy’s Image in the second OSS event. Adding to the triple scoring of Bertoli were goals by Seeds, Matt Peers, Derrik Hone, Haydar, and Shane Thompson. Travelling to Guelph proved no obstacle for the Hurricane Peewees as they swept by that team with a 10 to 3 win. The storm team came at their opponents with offensive wave after wave. In their attempts to keep up with the Hurricanes, Guelph took many penalties. This allowed the Halton Club to walk away with the game on goals by Bertoli, Seeds, Peers and Brad Davidson. Guelph Peewees were welcomed to home ice, Hillsburgh, by the Halton club when the Hurricanes completed another big game with an 8 - 3 victory. Bertoli, Haydar, Seeds, Hone and Ben Wilson netted hot ones for the Hurricanes. Visitors at the Streetsville rink, the Hurricane storm showed no mercy as they scored 11 goals against their host team. Putting the puck behind the Streetsville net- minder were Wilson, Seeds, Wes Blight, Paul Loader, Davidson, Hoogendam, Haydar, and Bertoli with assists going to Hone, Peers and Dan Collins. Adding assists to the storm’s offensive punch, while preventing opponents from scoring, were Halton defense Blight, Thompson, Loader, Jared Robinson and Chris Chlisezyk. Halton goaltenders, Chad Mehlenbacher and Ryan Billinghurst terminated the oppo- nents attempts to score with fine performances in all four games.
