Page 10 — Halton Hills This Week, Saturday, December 12, 1992 By Florence Wilkinson Most of the seniors who are alive today can remember Canada as wide open spaces. Sunday after- noon stroll was a stroll through the woods or through the park - not through the mall or through the downtown streets. ‘The stories told to me, as a young Person, were memories of Toronto when the houses at St. Claire and Yonge Streets had outdoor privies and wells with pumps in the back yards, ===" —" SAVE NOW...ON RG/I RCA REMOTE CONTROL CONSOLE 178 Channel Tuning Capability, ChanneLock Digital Remote, On-Screen Menu System, Alarm/Sleep Timer. He delivered papers to the farm homes all along the new Queen E. highway - by throwing them out the window, often at the speed of sixty miles an hours, or faster if the Paper Tun had been late. Now, sixty-miles-an-hour in those days was fast! And farm homes were not so far apart! Who would even dream of stretches of farm homes along the Queen E. today? - or going sixty miles an hour, for that matter? ich meandering brings me to the point of this article. A Person, or a group may participate in three different ways. The first, and most important way: During the month of January, 1993, there will be two meetings held at which persons or groups may make presentations. These will take place in Acton High School on January 12, 1993, at 7 p.m. and in Georgetown at the Cultural Centre, January 14, 1993, at 7 p.m. Individuals or groups may also write briefs and hand them in at the Rec and Parks office; or they may Phone Brenda Payton at 877-7578, or speak to the local councillor, A master plan for recreation will, T expect, take in outdoor activity, such as hiking and bike trails along the beautiful waterways which we have in our area; and indoor activi- ties, such as the proposed future seniors centre. There is such a wide variety of activity which comes under the heading “recreation”. For this reason, if for no other, the steering committee working on the master plan will need all the input which they can get - input from those who can look backward and think of some of the ways which renewed and refreshed the older generation; and from those who can look forward and visual- ize, or at least dream of, the kind of things which’ will be possible in our forever changing technological ‘uture. Mid-January comes very quickly! Maybe you can ask Santa Claus to bring you some ideas for Christmas. Then you will be sure to have them in time for the January meetings.
