Two matches were important to the teams which played each other in the Halton league last Monday, If only because they were close to each other in the standings. No ground was gained or lost between Copper Kettle #1 and Legion #1 with a 7-7 tie. However, George #4 gained _ ground at the expense of Legion #3 by a 10-4 margin. Meanwhile, the front running Legion #4 carried on with a 14-0 shellacking of bottom team George #3. McGibbon defeated Time Out #1 10-4 to stay in second place. George's#2 and #1 fought out a "tough and gritting" match before #2 won> 9-5. Legion #2 defeated Time Out #2 by the same score. Finally and not least of all, O'Tooles took out Copper Kettle #2 11-3 for a fine win. The Kettle/Legion tied match was a little unusual. The teams and singles were evenly divided with Legion winning the first half of each sets of games. Then the doubles opened with Kettle winning two and now looking for the win. It was not to be, as we know, with the last two sets going Legion's way to salvage the tie. George #4 and Legion #3 tied the teams and opening four singles and it looked as though we were heading for another tied match. At this stage in the match the visiting George took the remaining singles and went on to win three of the four doubles. Maximums from Eddie Ebbinge, Danny Fraser and Paul Kirby. Kirby now has won three for the category lead. Dave McNeilly closed 116, AL Murphy closed 105 and Keith Ewing holds the lead with 136. Mike Pepper fired 146 and 160 for the high scores of the night.
