Isabel Brown, R.N., will open her clinic called Feet First: Primary Foot Health Care Feb. 2. The clinic will be located in the back of Carol’s Hair and Beauty Shop on Main Street. ywn accepted early retirement from St. Joseph’s in March of last year after 38 years in nursing and was looking for a new direction. “I wasn’t ready to stay home and do nothing,” she said in an interview. Brown thus enrolled in an advanced foot care course at Sheridan College for nurses only, and graduated with first class hon- ors last fall. She and a friend pur- chased the Georgetown salon (Brown has been a Georgetown resident for 11 years) in the sum- mer as an investment. Brown hopes to be busy in her foot care practice for several years. * Those who will use her service include people with diabetes melli- tus, arthritis, corns, calluses, even hard skin. Often the elderly cannot care properly for their feet, said Brown, and eventually this may stop them from getting around and lead them to become shut-ins. Brown feels her five years of research at Baycrest Geriatric Centre has given her much experi- ence in working with older people. “Many of them had problems. with their feet,” she said. She also welcomes anyone, young or old, that find it difficult to care for their own feet or have vari- ous other foot problems. Brown will charge $25 per hour, $13 per half hour. “The initial assessment will probably be an hour,” Brown said. “We’ll come up with a plan of care Isabel Brown is set to open her Feet First: Primary Foot Health Care clinic Feb. 2.
