Around 20 under 19s are firing away at the George on Saturday afternoons at the George, just a comfortable number according to leader, Russ Hillier. Dave and Chris Scutt together with Neil Olmstead are a couple of other adult helpers. The match of the week for the Monday night Halton league was undoubtedly the meeting between first place Legion #4, undefeated and untied to date with second place, McGibbon. As promised, the match was a classic for the fans, if not all the players, ending in a 7-7 tie. Legion took the opening team’s sets and McGibbon the opening pair of singles. Three singles went to the home team and they also took two of the last three singles for a comfortable lead. The four dou- bles were last on the menu and slowly began to go McGibbon’s way. In the end, four wins for the visitors earned the tie. Meanwhile, third place George #2 took some advantage in winning 10-4 over Legion #2 to make up some ground on the leaders. Fourth place O’Tooles won 11-3 over George #4 to keep the front four way out in front of the rest. Other scores are George #3 and Legion #1 tie 7-7; Time Out #2 and Copper Kettle #2 tie 7-7; George #1 defeat Copper Kettle #1 7-6 (both teams were a player short) and Time #1 defeat Legion #3 8-6 to round off the results, The #1 teams from Time Out, Legion and Copper Kettle take places 5, 6 and 7. Ray See shot a 180, playing in doubles with “dummy” and almost won, Bon Jarrett also scored 180. Three high finishes were recorded, Paul Kirby, 120; Paul Goudie, 115 and Ian McDonald with 100. Dave Scutt hit five 140s, doubles coming from Stan Rhynold, Larry Varey, Paul Kirby, Chris Scutt, Ashley Windsor, Brad Youmans, Dan Fraser and Neil Olmstead. : Rena Gray defeated Erwin See two straight in singles. In the match up between two “veterans”, Al Murphy came out on top over Jack Hamilton. Darlene Wheeler defeat- ed Greg Shearer and male\female doubles combinations of O’Tooles also were winners. The similar doubles combines of Copper Kettle and Time Out tied each other. On Wednesday night in the Industrial league, Hustlers faltered a little in winning by one set over Panthers, the match could have eas- ily gone the other way. Gasketman Cutters came back on track with the return of some of the missing regu- lars to take 12 points of 14 on the night. Westenders’ 10 points keep them in second place and Steeprock remain third with a 9-5 night. In the second division, Dream Team dropped one set in each match and retain their lead of 27 points over nearest challengers, Ensigns. Ensigns took 7 of 10 on = ° the night. Hotshots remain third with 5-5, having a win and a loss. Independent stay in forth spot. Trailing in both sections are Inter- County and Bandits respectively. Erwin See, Hustlers, topped the high start with 72, Stan Rhynold opened with -160 and Shawn Warwick and Eddie Ebbinge both opened with 120, Brian Ward start- ed 116 and Tim Field had three Starts in a losing cause. Three opens also for Dan Abercrombie (who also scored 180), Ron Scarlett, Rod Beaumont and John Burke. Hank Van Gogh was another 180 throw- g r. High finish of the night goes to Beau Beaumont with 127, includ- ing the 50 last dart, called before going to the board, no less! Rob Campbell and Dave Scutt each had three finishes. Just a little for markers, including self. Try to stay facing the board when marking and do not move for throws not quite seen unless the thrown and lands. The marker also should not move during the throws, particularly when the opposition is at the line. Another matter is not to call shots whilst a player is at the line. The thrower should step back and allow his/her captain or leader to assist if called for by the thrower. A little etiquette on the part of us all helps to make the game more pleasant for everyone. Play, enjoy, have fun by all means - that is what is it all about in the end. The legions zone darts are close - beginning Saturday, 7 Feb. at Bronte Legion.
