Qualifiers decided for By Alex Tough ‘The qualifiers for the next round of Darts Ontario were Settled on Sunday at the Georgetown Legion. Leading the ladies singles is June Norton followed by Sandy Mercer, Sherri Reid, Darlene Wheeler, Kim Smid and Monica Southon. Male single qualifiers are Dan Abercrombie, Larry Hunt, self, Jeff Richardson, Keith Ewing, Dave Scutt, Neil Olmstead, Mike Hope and Russ Hillier. Mixed doubles _teams going through are Mike Hope/Sherri Reid, Keith Ewing/Monica Southon, Chris Scutt/Shirley Penfold, Todd Axford/Sandy Mercer, Hugh Smid/Kim Smid and Marty Wheeler/Darlene Wheeler. The Industrial League held teams triples last Wednesday and just managed to finish the night with a few minutes to spare. Three groups of round-robin played with the win- top four. Ian McDonald, Terry Hancock and Vic Lovell were the victorious trio. Dave and Chris Scutt, with Brian Ward were the runners up. Dennis Thorogood led Eric Fuller and Ray Ackroyd with Erwin See, Ray Inglis and Al Murphy rounding off the final four. During the play, Simon Entwhistle scored a maximum and Jim Franks took out 120 for the highlights. The winners made the last four following a playoff for the wild card entry after finishing second to the Dave Scutt trio in round-robin play. The defeated wild cards were By Steven Lee The AGM of the Peel-Halton Soccer Association provided good news for Georgetown Soccer Club. Figures presented in the Registrar’s report showed the Georgetown Club player registrations for the 1992 Outdoor season increased by 21% over 1991. This was the largest increase of any of the 17 Youth Soccer Clubs in the Association. (The next two clubs had growth of 19% and 14%, with the others 11% or less). Boys’ reg- istrations increased by over 17%, while the girls increased by 29% (not including the 34 Acton girls, members of Acton S.C., playing in joint leagues in 1992). With 740 players, comprised of 451 male (including 18 Georgetown Falcons, the senior men’s team affiliate), and 289 over 19,000 youth club players. Most gratifying is the continued growth of girls’ soccer, now almost 40% of the total, and 49% of the 11-19 age group. The misconcep- tion that soccer is exclusively a ‘ a t is long, in Georgetown at least! The second year of indoor soccer for girls recently began, at Acton High School on Saturday afternoons. In the 1993 season, the Club hopes this growth continues, espe- cially at the U6-U9 ages, to provide a strong foundation for future select and rep teams. Players are welcome from anywhere in the Halton Hills area. Youth soccer is entertaining (watch a group of six year olds “swarming” round the ball!) and action-packed, and a great way for your kids to work off some of that Hustlers (Ron Scarlett, Rod Beaumont and self) and Dream Team (Stan Rhynold, Bubby Rhynold and Shawn Warwick. A good night was had by most. Qualifiers for the youth darts Ontario shoots are Chris Corney, Kyle Hancock, Harvey Snow and Justin Penfold. The provincial championships for the youths are in March in Stratford. Corney and Hancock took first place in dou- bles. Hancock qualified in second young ‘uns on the big day. As I recall, Hancock and Penfold also qualified last year at this stage. Heading down into the final weeks of the season in the Halton league, Monday nights in the “pubs” Legion #4 look to have mat- ters sewn up with a 15 point lead over McGibbon and a 21 point lead over George #2. These three teams, together with O’Toole’s, in fourth place are the only teams to have scored more points than they have lost to date. Legion #4 defeated #1 by 10-4, McGibbon took a 13-1 decision over Copper Kettle #2 and George #2 and O’Toole’s played each other with the home team, George #2, coming out on top by 10-4. Other results are: George’s #4 and #3 tied 7-1; George defeated Timeout #2 9- 5; 7-7 tie for Timeout #1 and Copper Kettle #1 and Legion #2 defeated #2 8-6. Bottom two teams are George #3 and Timeout #2. Timeout #2’s players keep winning the 50/50 draw - this time John Colter is the lucky winner. The George/O’Toole’s match looked like a close one in the mak- ing as the singles unfolded. Shirley Georgetown Soccer Club growth extra energy. Taking in a game makes for an enjoyable pastime on a weekday summer evening, and it’s free. Players and potential coaches, managers, convenors, sponsors, helpers - come help Georgetown Soccer Club continue to grow - reg- istration for the 1993 season begins on February 27th, not that far away! Darts Penfold and Darlene Wheeler won their singles over Erwin See and Bill Blackbourn, Paul Kirby and Chris Scutt pulled through against Brian Ward and Mark See. Brad Youmans and Alex Tough replied over Dave Scutt and Hugh Smid, with Bruce Stevens and Ray See fighting their way to wins over Kim Smid and Marty Wheeler. The dou- bles and teams went the way of George #2’s throwers after the tied singles and victory was sealed. The #1 teams of Copper Kettle and Timeout also were close to each other in the standings and remained the same way after their tie. Even all the way with ties in singles, doubles and teams. Kettle were forced to play with “dummy” players, so it looks as though they fared quite well under the circum- stances. Andrew Wooley, Paul Kirby and Brian Ward scored maximums with a 104 finish from Jack Hamilton leading the individuals. Double 140s from Paul Kirby, Chris Scutt, Stan Rhynold, Eddie Ebbinge and Jan McDonald are pretty good darts. Single 140 and other highs were notched by George Wallis, Bruce Hope, Neil Olmstead, Sandy Mercer, Paul Goudie, Russ Hillier, Darts Ontario Vic Lovell, Rich Rintjema, Alex Paterson, Rob Marrows, Ian Cooper and Brian Ward. Paul Kirby, Dave and Chris Scutt, Stan Rhynold and Pete Pickering are in the top five leading points scorers - Kirby leads the 180s with four and three each from Jack Hamilton and Stan Rhynold. Nine of ten players from George #2 have each scored 180. The high fin- ish lead is held by Herman Bubby Rhynold with 160 and Ian McDonald has popped 157. George #2 have six players in the high fin- ish table. multi-stage noise shaping « Front & Rear Bass Reflex System « Feather-Touch Auto- erse Dec! * Jog control for CD editing * Auto Tape Selection * Motorized CD drawer ° ATLS Timer Standby/Recording any os GEORGETOWN MARKETP Panasonic SET YOURSELF A NEW AUDIO STANDARD WITH A NEW ONE-PIECE PANASONIC CD RADIO CASSETTE PLAYER Sleek and Sensational! » Remote-controlled CD Stereo with Dual Cassette fl only reg. °429.95 Authorized Panasonic Dealer jw Xe 280 Guelph St. Georgetown (416) 873-8555 vac, 2-storey garage. 3 years new.
