Georgetown young bowlers pin-pop zone challengers by Pete Williams The final week of the Y.B.C. National Championships Zone Finals produced three gold and three silver medals for Georgetown young bowlers. On Saturday, the junior boys’ team came from behind in their last game to a gold medal finish in the Central Ontario finals at Bramalea. The second and third place teams were only five and two pins behind. What a finish!! It really was a team effort by Andrew Terrell, Adam Scuralli, David Pegg, Paul Larocque and Michel Arsenault. Their coach, Gord Lane, gave the team a week off before starting preparation for the Provincial Championships on March 21. Paula Gougeon and Courtney Evers- Jordan were shooting hard for the blue side, after being hit with the same bouncing ball by a Little Devil. In the first minute of play, yellow player Stephanie Lefebvre scored for her side when they played the purple team. The action in this game was near the exit doors of the gym as players tried to clear the ball to center court. It showed fine spirit by Sara Pegg, Heather Pollock, Reanne Inglis, April Everingham and Kelly Klimsiak with their coach Carolyn Lane. The bantam boys’ team dupli- cated the girls team stand, also fin- ishing with a silver medal. Coach Brinley Hole said that although bowling above average, the boys could not come up with the extra pins needed in the third game. Thus, it was a silver for Gordon Everett, Shane Mandarino, Brendan Louth, ee Rodgers and Michael Clune: bowling the highest game for their event, 1007, were bested by Brampton and settled for silver. It was a splendid display for Janice Somers, Lynn Moreland, Jennifer Doyle, Heather Sanderson and Monica Beauparlant with coach Wendy Parent. The senior girls directed by Dee Dee Haynes, won their division by 171 pins over Streetsville. Sharon Shapcott led with a 709 triple while Sherry Walsh came up with a 307 high game followed by Tanya Martin, Christina Lane and Laura Doyle for a total of 3223 ins.
