Euchre players a hardy crew By Betty Sojka The Women’s Institute had hoped to fill 20 tables at their Euchre held last Thursday at the community centre. Cold tempera- tures and other commitments kept the number down to 14 tables of people in attendance, which was still a great crowd. Two prizes were given out for each division of High Man’s and High Ladies. Henning Rasmussen won High Man’s followed by Ross Britton. June Longstreet had the highest points in the ladies division fol- lowed by Mrs. Weddell. Instead of having a booby prize, two lucky Ballinafad News cards were drawn, with Mrs. Pearl Burt and Emmerson Clarke being the winners. Oodles and oodles of delicious sandwiches were served along with light and dark cake. Tea and coffee completed the refreshments. The next scheduled Euchre will be on Thursday, March 4th, starting at 7:30 p.m. at community centre. Saturday, February 20th was a day of education for six members of the Women’s Institute. Several members traveled to Fergus to take. part in six workshops. After com- Foster family sought The Halton Home Care program urgently needs a foster family to care for Sherry. An attractive, pleasant girl who has just turned 17, Sherry has Rett Syndrome and would really benefit from the one- to-one care a foster family can pro- vide. She is neat, affectionate and although she does have some com- munication difficulties, is easy to work with. While she needs some assistance with daily tasks, she can feed herself, she is mobile, and only requires a wheelchair when going long distances. Sherry attends high school most of the day, and the HHC program will provide an in-home worker to assist the foster family with bathing, exercising and other daily routines as needed. Ongoing sup- port for the foster family through training and regular visits is also provided. All foster parents receive a daily board rate plus expenses. Other foster parents in the Halton Home Care program say that caring for a child like Sherry can be very rewarding. If you are interested in becoming Sherry’s foster family, or if you would like more information, call Florence Mo at 844-8211.
