By Dianne Cornish An Acton man, convicted of dumping car and truck tires on an embankment near 27 Sideroad and the Eighth Line, was fined $1,000 for littering last week. A justice of the peace at Milton provincial court imposed the fine on Robert Briand. While the maximum fine for lit- tering is $5,000, Halton Hills municipal law enforcement officer Georgetown Little Theatre’s final production of the year is now in rehearsal with performances scheduled for April 16, 17, 21 - 24 at the John Elliott Theatre. Private Lives, the romantic comedy by Noel Coward, will be directed by Vesta Jorgensen. This will be Jorgensen’s first play with GLT,” although she recently directed South Pacific in Georgetown. A citizen, who noticed a pickup truck filled with old tires and parked near the Eighth Line and 27 Sideroad, reported the incident to Halton Hills This Week, Wednesday, March 10, 1993 — Page 5 police after writing down the licence number .of the truck. Several tires were strewn for over a kilometre on a nearby embank- ment, many of them directly in front of a sign which warns against dumping in the area. Part of the Bruce Trail runs right through the area. Further investigation revealed that some of the tires had been given to Briand by the owner of Silver Creek Shell, on Highway 7 Acton man fined $1,000 for tire dumping between Acton and Georgetown. The gas station owner had paid Briand to dispose of the tires and believed that he was doing so, legally. The tires were traceable because some were marked as warranty tires. It cost the town $821.28 to dis- pose of the tires, Stein said. Briand has 30 days to register an appeal on his conviction.
