He does this through the relationship of Caroline (Marisa Tomei) and Adam (Christian Slater). CD APPLE 354 Guelph St, Unit 27, Georgetown, Ont. (416) 873-1655 GEORGETOWN < EMAS = 235 Guelph Street 873-1999 TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Ill Martial Arts / Violence / Some scenes may frighten DALY 2m, 7908 e00 HOMEWARD ME WAE The story starts with Adam’s fragile beginning in an orphanage. He is cast as a sensitive child with a heart condition. As an introverted adult fast forwarding 20 years, he doesn’t have many lines for the movie’s lead. As if he doesn’t have problems. Then we meet Caroline who is struggling to find a reciprocating partner in love. She hasn’t been very successful until she discovers Adam, who now works as a busboy in the diner where she is a waitress. This coming together in love of restaurant help reminds us of the Pacino-Pfeiffer flick, Frankie and Johnny. Untamed Heart is slightly more optimistic, though it is equal- ly sad. Untamed Heart progresses with Adam and Caroline sorting out their emotional baggage and their accepting of each other, scares included. The story generally tends to be overly sentimental, and melo- dramatic at times. One redeeming quality of this movie is the supporting perfor- mance of Rosie Perez, who plays Cindy, a saucy co-worker in the diner. She does well to make her lines plausible. Untamed Heart does have its many moments of poignancy but for the most part it unnecessarily beats its point to a slow, painful leath. e “It you are trying to quit smoking I wouldn’t recommend this movie to you. Everyone in the first half is constantly lighting up. One of the most dramatic moments and real acting surrounds the cigarette machine being abused by the bad guys. GLT is busy setting up Preparations for Georgetown Little Theatre’s April production of Noel Coward’s Private Lives are under way at Stewarttown. While the actors rehearse, the backstage crew are busy building and paint- ing the set. Roger Daykin has taken on UNTAMED baity r MATINEES ior Mar 112 Main St. S. A warm and welcoming peo- ple, the Irish have made conversa- tion an art form and the pursuit of it a national pastime. The pace of life is such that there is always time for a chat and anyone is welcome to. join in. In a country so small, the variety of Ireland's scenery is a wonderful, ever-changing canvas of colour and drama, from the sophisti- cation of Dublin — rich in history, literature and architecture — to the beauty spots of Killarney, warmed by the waters of the Gulf Stream, or the spectacular Cliffs of Moher. It is a land of many contrasts where you will see modern farm equipment working in one field and men stack- ing hay in the next; the latest model car passing a local on his donkey cart loaded down with a can of milk and a bundle of peat to heat his cot- tage. Join us on our Britain and Ireland tour in August and experi- ence for yourself the simple plea- sures of this wonderful country and its people. S for set design for the first time, helped by the construc- tion crew of Ron Hunt, Frank Anthony and Gord Hunt. Daykin has learned his craft through work- ing on several past productions, most recently Dr. Cook’s Garden, under the direction of some of GLT’s experienced members. The set for Private Lives posed some interesting challenges, both for design and for construction; not only are two complete sets required, but one has to be easily removed after the first act. Set design begins with detailed drawings and plans made by the designer in consultation with the director. Walls, doors, archways, windows, bookcases, fireplaces etc. are then assembled on the floor of the backroom at Stewarttown, painted and finally labeled for assembly on stage. Performances are scheduled for April 16, 17, 21-24 at the John Elliott Theatre. Friday and Saturday tickets are $10 while Wednesday and Thursday are $8. Remember, there is no GST with GLT, so call the Box Office now at 877-3700. Graham Gove, proprietor of the Copper Kettle in Glen Williams, has been a staunch supporter of the pediatric ward at Georgetown and District Memorial Hospital for years. This time he's letting his beard grow until patrons donate $500 to the hospital ward. To date, close to $400 has been collected.
