Community garden plots available By Trina Virgin Special Recently, several concerned citi- *zens_associated with the Christian Reform Church, the Acton Horticultural Society, and the Acton Foodshare Program have come together to organize commu- nity garden areas in the Acton area. A community garden area is sub- divided into sections or plots and leased to individuals for a $10 annual fee. The funds are used to support the watering equipment and plowing costs. Each garden plot is the sole responsibility of the indi- vidual for planting, harvesting, maintaining proper ‘weeding, culti- vation (excluding the initial annual plowing) and watering. This garden concept can provide people who, for example, live in an apartment with land access for gar- dening which they otherwise would not have. The emphasis is on veg- etable gardening but not restricted to this type. Gardening canbe very rewarding and a healthy form of recreation. The Acton Horticultural Society is pleased to participate with any- one interested in leasing a garden plot. We are providing a free veg- etable garden seminar April 20th, 1993 with Christine Cole of Tuitman’s Garden Centre as guest speaker. This seminar is open to anyone who is interested in garden- ing, whether it be within the con- text of a community garden or your Halton Hills This Week, Wednesday, March 31, 1993 — Page 7 The Royal Canadian Legion ) IT: COL.
