After all, unemployment is still near record levels and more “downsizing” is bound to come. During this period the resource sector has done extremely. well. Mutual funds like AGF's Canadian Resources, Bolton Tremblay's Planned Resources, and McKenzie's Industrial Equity have risen around 30% in the first quarter of 1993, or 120% annualized! Why? Are the earnings of the companies that good? No, but the Government has continued to lower interest rates to stimulate jobs and this has brought conservative investors out investments that continue to get worse. This is the first time this has happened since the 1987 stock market cr: Adding these retail investors to the big traders has made for an interesting influx of investment money chasing the equities. The resources are expected to be active in the recovery since inventories have been depleted and the pipe line must be replenished in order to fuel the consumer demand that should come as the recovery matures and jobs are created.
