No longer can he be thought of as Eric Bristow’s (the Crafty Cockney) protege. Priestley is a star in his own right. The day of his visit to Georgetown, and the George & ~ Dragon in particular, is Saturday, May 29 for a 1 p.m. start. Although details of his “show” are not yet known, one thing is certain. Players will be given the opportunity to play the Master. How they are to obtain the opportunity is yet to be revealed. Acton star, Rod Leech, is behind the visit and will also be in attendance. Leech is to partner Priestley in the Ottawa Open later. Rod’s wife, Barbara, no mean player herself with several titles to her bow, will partner Priestley in the team triples at Ottawa with former Mississauga player, Peter Mills. Mills is making abig name for himself in the south- ern U.S.A., Florida mainly, I believe. Meanwhile, the Industrial league continues on it’s play downs to the final weeks. First division Hustlers and Second division Dream Team are the only teams with full points so far in playoff action. Hustlers took 13 of 14 possible points last week from Inter County and Steeprock and yet-only lead by two points. Gasketman Cutters are in second place with impressive wins over High Rollers and Westenders. Steeprock are third and Westenders are fourth. The first four reflecting the league standings and playoffs both. With three matches left to play, these four look like making a fight of it through to the finish. ‘As in league play, Dream Team are way out infront, leading both Independents and Taxmen by six points. League runners up, Ensigns, moved into fourth place just anoth- er point adrift. A repeat of league is “on” for Dream Team with the others bat- tling it out for runner-up spot. The surprise, if that is the correct word, is the form of Taxmen and Independents who are in with a World-class player to visit Georgetown shout. They have to play each other and Dream Team which will be crucial to their chances. High start in the first division is 138 by Ron Scarlett with Horst Schirm (135), Jeff Richardson (120), and Terry Hancock and Neil Olmstead, each firing 112 to open. Russ Hillier shot 140 to lead the high finish contingent and 140 was the high score of the division also. Those hitting the high were Rod Beaumont, Ray Ackroyd, Paul Kavanagh, with Jeff Richardson and Brian “Wild Thing” Ward both hitting for two of them. Larry Hunt scored 120, Bruce Hope 121, Dennis Thorogood 123 and Ian McDonald 132. Tom Elliot’s 103 led the second division high starts with Gord Inglis netting 90 to open. 78 from John Burke led the finishes and Eddie Ebbinge closed 52. Jim Franks scored 140, Gord Inglis 120 and both:Al Murphy and Ken Gritten netted tons. Returning to the opening theme for a moment and linking with the Industrial League. An individual shoot for the chance to play Dennis Priestley is likely to be held after the conclusion of league play. Players may enter the shoot for a fee of $10.00 and a number will play against Priestley at the George. ‘Those who enter the shoot, win or not, shall be entitled to go to the performance day on May 29 free of charge. (The $10 entry for the play-off shoot is counted as the entry fee on the Priestley day). See you the evening of May Sth at the Legion! o Auto Glass 354 Guelph St, Unit 27, Georgetown, Ont.
