Important board meeting By Betty Sojka Many thanks go out to Jan Berry of T.L.C. Pet Foods (877-7044) for sponsoring the April newsletter that ‘was mailed out last week. You can call Jan for a free sample treat. An important Hall Board meeting has been called for Wednesday, May 12. It will_be held at the com- munity centre, starting 7:30 p.m. sharp. Area residents are asked to come on out to express their opin- ions on future developments in the part. It has been proposed to add lights to the baseball diamond, and a soccer fence. Your opinion is needed. Please try to attend the meeting. The Ballinafad United Church is now 115-years-old. In celebration of this, a special service was held this past Sunday. Lasting almost.2- #l/2 hours, the service began with the Kerr family entertaining the congregation. Bob was on guitar, with wife Pat playing the piano. Christine, their daughter, sang in a beautiful clear voice, amazing everyone whenever she hung onto those high notes. Bob and Pat sang along with Christine for some of the four or five songs. They were joined by Mrs. Nancy Knox for one of them. Reverend Joe Smiley made a few church announcements and then llinafad News introduced Mrs. Nancy Knox as guest speaker. Sprinkling her talk with humor, Mrs. Knox was utterly delightful. She came along with a bag full of hats. As she pulled each one out, she quizzed the children as to what type of worker would wear that particular hat; e.g., chef, con- struction worker, etc. At the end of this exercise, it came about that it didn’t matter to God what you did for a living. The Junior choir sang a few hymns adding to the program. A lunch followed the service. The Women’s Institute’s dessert Euchre held last Thursday in the afternoon was held at the Erin Masonic Hall. It was pretty suc- cessful as eight tables of players turned up for an afternoon of Euchre. Margaret Davidson won High Lady’s with Lil Givens holding the second highest score. High Man's was won by Bill Delaney, followed by Garfield McGilvray. Howard Switzer won the Men's Lucky Draw. Coffee, tea and delicious goodies were very much enjoyed. Please note that the Karioke Night at the community centre is Saturday, May 29 and not the 25 as printed in error in -the April newsletter.
