Eunice McGowan, head of Social Work at Georgetown hospital, explains the service plays an i tant role for families, friends and the community. “By allowing ourselves to mourn, we undertake an essential part of 12- the healing process. The “Time to Remember” memorial service at Georgetown hospital is similar to others held regularly in hospitals throughout North America in that it gives people the opportunity to jonor the memory of their loved one, and share their feelings with caring and understanding relatives and friends”. And while the mourning process is usually associated with the fami- -| Special memorial service ly and friends of the deceased, hos- Pital staff also need time to grieve. “Medical personnel often devel- op a close relationship with patients and their families. The memorial service enables our staff to again demonstrate their support for the families, and lend support to each other during the grieving process,” McGowan adds.
