Next week has been designated National Public Works Week, honor- ing the efforts of Public Works employees. A number of activities are planned throughout Halton during this week. To begin, a kick-off celebration will be held today (Saturday) 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Petro Canada Park in Bronte. There will be dis- plays, demonstrations and a guided nature walk along Bronte Creek Valley. Volunteers will participate in a valley. cleanup to help protect the local environment. The Halton Region Conservation Authority will give guided tours of the valley and explain the significance of var- ious elements found in the environ- mentally sensitive areas. Also today, the Big Sisters Association will be participating in a litter control program in both Georgetown and Milton. This activity will take place on Trafalgar Road near Georgetown Works Yard and on Steeles Avenue in Milton between Ontario Street and Thompson Road. Halton’s new Landfill Site will be offering tours during Public Works Week. To arrange for a tour of this State of the Art facility located on Hwy 25, call Gerrit Buitenhuis, Environmental Inspector at the Landfill Site at 825-6000, ext. 8209. To focus:on the awareness of Public Works services, students from the elementary and secondary school level will be attending Halton Regional Centre where staff will offer presentations. The pro- gram will show students how plan- ning, building and operating Regional Public Works such as water, wastewater, roads and waste management affects their daily lives and helps to create the healthy communities that we enjoy in Halton. During Public Works Week, a series of displays will be located throughout Halton Regional Centre to show the diversity and complexi- ty of Public Works services.
