Smith was born in Bournemouth, England on September 21, 1043. His parents, Edward and Marjorie, came to Canada in 1953. In 1956 he won the Canadian Legion Nationwide oratorical con- test. His topic was “Alexander Graham Bell”. At KCI he orga- nized a trio. They wore Perry Como-style sweaters. Cedric lined up with Richard Kellan and they called themselves the Perth County Conspiracy. Later he joined with Terry Jones and they produced five albums. In 1963, at age 20, he married Joan Little (18). He went to Stratford and played in the Black Swan. He sang and made social commentaries. His bicycle was the chief means of transportation in Stratford. In 1964 he auditioned for parts and he appeared as Richard Bolinbroke in Richard II and acted in parts in Henry IV and Henry V. Cedric Smith He had parts in CBC Miniseries’ Love and Hate, Who Has Seen the Wind and The Campbells, which was filmed in Georgetown. He played Capt. Sims. He played at Second City in Toronto with the lead role in Che Guevara. In a one-man theatrical presenta- tion of Billy Bishop Goes to War, he toured Canada and Bermuda for over two years. He toured the coffee house circuits in many US university towns. In.1993 he was awarded the Gemini Award for the best male leading actor in Canada. He sang Children of the Island at this gala event. Cedric Smith is a folk singer, composer, guitarist and former Stratford Festival actor. His moth- er lives in Kitchener, his brother Keith in Oakville and his sister Linda in Shakespeare. His father died in 1990.
