Fortunately, the movie lives up to its advanced billing. The plot has 17-year old Zora Mathews (played by Nia Long) dis- covering that her mother, Sarah (Whoopi Goldberg), was artificial- ly inseminated. Sarah is the owner/operator of an African- American bookstore and a self- identified “urban bush woman”. Confused by this startling revela- tion, Sarah draws her mother into her discovery. Sarah reacts with anger and astonishment.
