Leafs scuttle Karioke night party By Betty Sojka The Hall Board learned it is pret- ty hard to compete with the Toronto Maple Leafs in a playoff game this past weekend. Only about 50 people came out for the Karioke Dance Night. Held at the community centre, many an adventurous soul got up to sing. Bill and Trish of Sing It Again Entertainment provided the back- ind music. Trish got the grot Ballinafad News going by singing a few songs her- self, and with a special knack of making people feel comfortable, she wandered from table to table chatting with everyone. Before long, folks were getting up to sing in groups, duos, or by themselves. The crowd seemed more interested : listening. to the singers attentive- than dancing. A real warm cama- raderie developed over the evening. During the delicious pot luck luncheon, the crowd clapped for their choice of best entertainer. Andy Terry of Mississauga was the decided winner of the $20 cash prize. Andy had sung a few songs throughout the night. Instead of spot prizes, as there was not much dancing going on, all the prizes were drawn as door prizes. The six lucky winners were Don MacMillan, Chris Tanner, Hans Van Klink, Jean Buston, Mel and Margaret Yeo. Bruno Carnelos is very much appreciated for being bar tender. Thanks, Bruno! Special heartfelt thanks go out to all who attended. Their support in turning what could have been a disaster into a really fun night will always be remembered. When the Jim Dandies tackled the Red Hots in last Friday’s game, the cold temperatures and high winds made it difficult for both teams to concentrate. The cold just seemed to seep into the players’ muscles. Many a ball hit out field got help from.a gust of wind, that sent it far past the fielder’s out- stretched hand. It was a night for fielders to scramble on both teams, and both teams earned points in the double digits. The Jim Dandies came out on top with a win. Anyone taking a walk through the park will now see soccer posts installed. We are that much closer in having a soccer pitch, due to the kindness and generosity of Bruno Carnelos. Bruno hand-made these soccer posts, donated them and then even delivered. You can’t be Call thanked enough, Bruno, for this.
