Tt was apparent from the start of the meeting that the members were in a solemn, thoughtful mood. Some were in a fowl mood but that was, no doubt, caused by consuming BBQ’d chicken at a Cc vent. A member made note of the Capitol Commission issuing a cheque for $150,000 to Mila Mulroney, to compensate her for was certainly a smart move, by Ottawa standards, in that when the new P.M. moved in and decided to redecorate, the Commission would say “Oops” and sell the stuff off to a relative for $50,000 holding the net loss to $100,000. End result, all the people that count are happy. Mila is happy, the Commission is happy, the new P.M. is happy, the relative is happy... so don’t look so sad! Another member asked the meeting to comment on Kim ‘Campbell's “across the country” odyssey, on Canada Day. Comments ranged from “great Political coup for Kim...with an election coming, it was great -xposure...and it was done at the "s experise — that's heady!” to “Who cares” to “jet lag”.to “politics — schmolitics”. = to give the P.M. input on the Canadian economy. Alleged rea~ son ~ to give the P.M. a great Out at the Ranch and faxed his input on the econo- my. Everybody else attended. Seems like a hell of an ex; for a few pictures! But a photo op is a photo op! The Trust Chairman urged the membership to calm down, as some were getting downright surly over recent political events. mei asked for comments on the Senate vot- ing a $6,000 travel allowance. mature thoughts ~ so they are going to spend even more money to come back to Ottawa, in mid summer, to reconsider. He won- dered if anyone even thought of waiting until the Senate was reconvened in the fall, to save the travel expense. Apparent thus proving that there are no fools like old fools! opportunities.
