Taylor After a steady winning streak, the Halton Hills Opti- Mrs. Under-15 Girls soccer team learned how to be gra- cious in defeat as they were outscored by the Bolton Canadian Tire team in Bolton. The Bolton team scored in the first four minutes and never let up. The forward line for Halton Hills with Jenn Shields and Kim Moore managed to hit the crossbar several times and the defense line with Branwen Williams and Cheryl Zomer was busy protecting the goal but were outrun by the Bolton players. Rachel Buikema and Bridget Thompson also turned in a solid perfor- mance, as the Opti-Mrs. girls played steadily end to end. The Bolton Canadian Tire * goalie made some good saves as the Halton Hills teams kicked the black and white ball close to the posts but not between them, and the final score was 5-0. By Ruth D. Only the orange team had fresh players to substitute. Last week, both the blue Optimists’ and the red Millieres TV teams played shorthanded. The red team dominated the first half of this game with Bethan Elliott scoring for the Red and B. J. Fleet scoring for the Blue. hen B.J. netted a second ball while Blue goalie Amanda Potterton stopped fast shots, including one with her face. Bethan sent another in for the reds but Becky Culp dunked the tie-breaker for a 3-2 score for the Blues. Aaron Williams did a good job calling the handballs and corner kicks. Playing well for the Red Millieres TV were Lauren Boyce, Jennifer McBean and Julie Thompson on defense, while goal scor- ers and goalie Kim Neilsen played well for the Blue Optimists. Mackenzie-Smith field in Acton is now decked out with corner flags which makes life easier for the ref- erees. The orange Linda Armstrong/Johnson Associates team faced a depleted Green team which played with eight but held the oranges to one goal by Alanna Zelek while Amanda Burgan scored four big green ones. The blue Optimists played.down the line with great hustle against the red Millieres TV team who are now passing well and demonstrating superb team effort. The sole goal of the game was scored by Alyssa Taylor for red Millieres TV after a good pass from Krystal Westman who received a good throw-in from Jennifer McBean. Playing well for the Optimists were Shaylyn Rypstra, busy in defense, while Becky Culp was man- aging headers and Stephanie Power kept up the heat as left forward. Defense B.J. Fleet darted in on a great play to help her goalie when the ball got behind her. The Poppacorns were reduced in numbers too when they played Millieres TV. It is hard to play wide field soccer with eight play- ers on each side, but these players gave their fans a good show on the big Meadowglen field. Good team effort was exerted by all players, as play was back and forth. A goal from a corner kick by Kira Lawrence was answered by one by Mary Krasnay. Bethan. Elliott scored another that made the Poppacorns Danielle King pop one into the net. Alyssa Taylor kicked another goal and then Danielle and Bethan finished the scoring with a 4-4 tie. Buffy Blagrave was busy between the goal posts for the Poppacorns while Heather Inglis, Heather Cunningham and Katey Lee controlled the midfield. Working for the TV crew were Sharily Kogon who kept returning the ball to the forwards while Ashley Stinson and Julie Thompson worked on great defensive. kicks.
