In the other matchup, CIBC beat JV Jets 18-14 to keep pace with Arnies for top spot in the league. In the third quarter, Brenda Hamilton pulled ahead in the scoring for a brief moment to bring M & M within 7. Late in the game, Kelly Cunningham answered back with her second TD and Donna Brown picked up two. In the other match, CIBC saw backup QB Noreen Atkinson take to the field. Her philosophy appeared to be stick to what’s working and that’s what they did! With lightning speed, Marg Walinga raced easily for her first of two TD’s. Before the half, Atkinson hit pay dirt on a Nancy Hoover reception. After several suc- cessive running plays, Marg Walinga scampered untouched 50 yards for another TD. Late in the fourth quarter, JV Jets came to life with a long bomb to Lorraine Capreol who then raced to the one yard line. A diving flag by Nancy Hoover stopped the touchdown but an injury caused her to leave her team with seven players. Pam Martin scored a major and sure-handed Ineke Booth picked up a two point con- vert. On the next set of downs, Rosemary Gale Wysocki grabbed an inter- ception and took it 40 yards for the final score. Under-19s By Helen Bilik A busy few weeks for the Halton Under-19 girls team and they keep on going. On Aug. 7-8, the girls entered their first tourna- ment of the season in Grimsby. Despite the hot and humid weather, Halton did quite well, finishing fourth out of eight teams. Goal scorers were Eileen Campbell (2), Erica Booth, and Taysha Brankiewicz _ GEORGETOWN MINOR HOCKEY tie for first (). On Aug. 14-15, the team traveled to Welland to par- ticipate in a Rep tourna- ment. Because the girls are only a House League select team, the odds were against them. But the girls again exceeded expectations by playing three of the best games of the season: Well done, girls! Goal scorers were Erica Booth and Marci Roy. Tuesday night saw the team in Bolton for a regu- lar-scheduled game. Halton again played a great game, beating the first place Bolton team by a score of 3-2. Halton is now tied for first place due to this win! Great game, _ girls! Noteworthy players are: Deanna Guignard - pro- vided speedy and consistent defensive play and was one of the main contributors to Halton’s win.
