The Raiders are set to play in an NHL Mini-Tournament this weekend in Etobicoke “League West _ “The tournament is set up to get the players ice time and to see how they can play under Tan Ellis game conditions,” said Ford. “Also, to mix and match play- ers on various lines and just see who can play where.” Even though it’s early in the hockey season, Ford: says the young players who have come out this summer for the that “half-a-dozen” have really impressed Ford in what he’s looking for as far as role-type players.. “Tt comes down to their desire and attitude, their will- ingness to work hard and most -important, intensity. M/Js play a tournament in London this Saturday. Trevor Brandt tell if players are giving it everything they have and we “Defense is where we need help,” he said. “Some guys with some toughness. Because in June you need five or six who stand out because any- thing can happen in the play- offs. The forwards look good so far. There’s two or three good hockey players that may play with (Trevor) Brandt and (Tan) Ellis.” Ford admits the Raiders are hoping Brandt:and Ellis will lead the team again this year but says that any could emerge and become a leader and that five or six et fill that roll, Another question mark is_at goal ates tte Raiders will have to find someone to fill the spot left when Jason Sirota decided to play south of the border this year. “We've been carefully looking at goal but their aren’t many top goalies around. I think Sirota was the best goalie in the league last year and that every team is in the same boat (searching for goal- tending).” This year is expected to be tight again in the West divsion but Ford thinks the Raiders will be much improved. “Burlington, Brampton and Oakville are always tough and now with Hamilton in the division, it will continue that way, I think .500 hockey is a step in the right direction because the team played well last year at the end of the-sea- son.” “Tt will be a fight to the end for the players to see who makes the team and a couple from Halton Hills ‘have a good shot of making it.
