They, is in reference to the Georgetown Mens. Flag Football League entry Muscle Pit which defaulted for the second consecutive game playoff picture a bit out of In games played, Meznic Electric topped M&M Pro Sports 16-8 and defending league champion Dawgs pulled a mild upset by down- ing the league-leading Longhorns, 23-19. Plus Welding picked up two points as a result of the default over winless Muscle Pit and with final regular sea- son games scheduled for this Sunday, there could be a log- jam for third place. Longhorns lead with 20 points, Dawgs are right behind snapping at their hoofs with 18 points, Meznic and M&M each have 12 points and Plus Welding has 10 points. Since the third place regu- lar season finisher would take on Muscle Pit in the first playoff round, if the wannabe Arnold Schwarz crew folds, some team could get a free ride into second round playoff action. There is talk league execu- tives are thinking of revamp- ing the playoff format, but nothing, as yet, has been ided. = § Meznic 16 M&M 8 The Meznic bunch weren’t overpowering in this tilt, but & ice again came up with a lacklustre effort both offensively and defensively to allow the electricians to share third spot in the league stand- ings. The game was decided in the first half, with Meznic MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION Me holding a 13-0 lead. Meznic was held to just a field goal in the second half, but M&M could only muster eight second half points - too little, too late. A Herb Hulme interception for Meznic on the final play of the game snuffed out what- ever flicker of hope remained for Mi Team leader and Mr.-just- about-everything, Dale Mieczaniec had 10 scoring points, on a touchdown, a field goal and a convert. Lockwood scored the other Meznic major. Stu Lunn also had an inter- ception for the winners. For M&M, Horace Thomas scored a touchdown, Richard Flag Football Garden kicked a convert and Mark McKeon booted a sin- gle off a towering punt. Mike Henderson had an interception for M&M. Dawgs 23 Longhorns 19 The Pound Crew, consist- ing mainly of members from the Big Smoke, were once again without the services of a number of team veterans and perhaps were taken a bit igey by the front running res actually led 12-8 at the half then took to grazing instead of concentrating and the Mutts rallied for the win. Diminutive Dawg Al Pelland, caught a two-point convert to run his league- leading scoring total to an even 100 and according to league insiders, this is just 12 points off the league scoring record. It could be his on Sept. 12. when the Barkers take on Plus Welding. Colin Brown - with the first touchdown he has ever scored in league play over a fair number of years - Dan Reynolds and. Terry Enman scored touchdowns for the Dawgs, while Frank Bruno kicked a field goal. Dennis Hanley and Pat McKinnon had interceptions for the winners. For the Longhorns, Bob Davey had two touchdowns, Paul Allison had a TD along with an interception and Bill Taylor kicked a convert. je t Equipment EXCHANGE & SALE Saturday September 11 at at at at at Georgetown Memorial Arena Unsold Equipment and Money Pickup *4 p.m. to 5 p.m. * The above tines are set. Taylor Two Kims carried and kicked the ball to score for their respective teams when Bolton R.A. Morandini Sales Purple team tangled with Opti-Mrs. in Under-15 girls soccer. Kim Moore netted one in the first three minutes ‘for Halton Hills while a slow clearing of the front of the net allowed Kim Melcher, assisted Melissa Mertineit, to kick the ball in the mesh for Bolton in the second half. Optimist Kim Moore aimed another one which was deflected by alert goalie Annette Barichelb, but. it bounced and Erin O’Leary got her toe on the ball in the air and shot again for the 2-1 score for Halton Hills. A solid defense for Bolton with Alana Morandini cou- pled with assertive forwards Stephanie _ Piorkowska, Melissa and Kim and a swift penalty kick by Julie Hurst provided the Halton Hills girls with enough work to do. Bridget Thompson, Jenn Royce and Sandra van Der Vinne played well at getting the ball to the forwards who had to work for their goal shots. A second game had the Brampton Golden Angels flying high when they played the Opti-Mrs. playing a strong game on dusty dead grass, they blocked Opti- Mrs. shots very well. There were injuries on both sides and time-outs for knee twists and balls stopped by faces during the game but the Brampton girls were on the sunny side of the 4-2 score. A Yellow goal by Nina Sampogna was answered by Kim Moore with a Blue one. Susan Swain, the Brampton goalie caught a plethora of shots and chased more, including a few kicked to the parking lot under cars. More Angels’ scorers included Jennifer Eddie.with two and Daniela Gabrielli, who netted one by knocking down a long goalie kick-out. Opti-Mrs. challenged in the second half as Kim Moore kicked in a long one for Halton Hills, while Rachel Buikema played a strong challenging game, running out the strikers and Courtney Norman tangled at midfield to get the ball up the field.
