PAGE 4 THE ACTON MONTHLY VOLUME 1, ISSUE 12 EDITORIAL With Scott Brooke September 15th was a dark day for Ontario's local media landscape as the news came out that Metroland Media had filed for bankruptcy, thus no longer distributing printed newspaper editions to homes and businesses. Sadly, 605 professionals of reporters, editors, and other associated newspaper staff lost their jobs in the bli of an eye without any prior notice or any severai which includes those who reported news aly an across Halton Hills. The papers in Halton pes so have been abruptly cancelled were the Georgetot Independent & Free Press, Milton Cha cbton, Oakville Beaver, and Burlington Post—effective immediately making The Acton Monthly the only printed newspaper in all of Halton. While I do not take this new-found claim lightly, as it meant a loss of jobs for many, as a historian it does make me realize we have now entered a new chapter the history of local news reporting, one that no noi involves the tradition of a local weekly paper being delivered to every home or the record-keeping of events for the future generations to look back on. Thankfully, you as a reader need not to worry as, The Acton Monthly will still be here providing you coverage n the happenings of Acton thanks to the continued support of local businesses through advertisements. While this paper does receive support through ads, it is also supported through a dedicated subscription base. x rym already do subscribe to this paper, then I thank u for doing so, and if you currently do not, I would encourage you to consider signing up as a way to help ensure that you will receive this paper for a longtime to come, while supporting your local media.
