According to the Rotary Club, a selection committee, consisting of three former Citizens of the Year, carefully reviewed several worthy candidate submissions—all of whom would have been excellent choices to receive the honour. Bonnette was the Mayor of Halton Hills for 19 years, until retiring in 2022. Prior to becoming Mayor in 2003, Bonnette served on town council and regional council, starting in 1982. The Rotary Club says because of his dedication and involvement to the community of Acton, the accolades’ came pouring in, making Bonnette the izen of the Year clear choice for Acton’s top honour. “He is described as a positive builder of our local and larger community, an outstanding public servant and a great representation of our community. Rick embodies the sprit of Acton and exemplifies the values of a true Citizen of the Year.” Bonnette will be honoured with a dinner at the Acton Town Hall Centre on the evening of Tuesday, October 24th.
