Page'26 — Haiton Hills’ This Weak: Saturday, October 23, 1993 ysler Raiders aren’t By Mike Zrostek Just because the Raiders are off to a slow 2-6 start in the Provincial Junior A + West Division, there is no reason to worry about mov- ing players or making an overhaul says general man- ager Finn Poulstrup. “We have good ingredi- ents here for a solid team,” said Poulstrup. “The guys have a great attitude, they want to win and are trying hard. I think we have a good scoring punch and four or five guys that can have coaches who have the hockey sense. “ Poulstrup says the club is looking for somebody on the right wing but that there. Eve to Mics won’t be an overhaul, say- ing that the Raiders “have the right pieces and that the team just needs to click.” Now that the team has gone threw the league once, Poulstrup thinks you can better figure out where you tand. “I don’t think we need a major over- haul, we are two or three guys away from being a for the rough going of late can be attributed to some key players missing from the line-up. Paul Huffman has been released by the Raiders, (@) Kris Arro is out for two more weeks with a hyper- extended knee, Trevor Elinesky is nursing an ry and is still about a week away. Will Mansour has taken himself out of the line-up indefinitely, for unspecified reasons and now Trevor Brandt is gone for four games after a suspension that has Poulstrup a little awk’s ne’s coming Fall Fair. baffled. “T feel that the checking from: behind rules are tougher now and I’m all for it, it’s a very dangerous play,” said Poulstrup. “I have a problem with it when a match penalty is called and the referee didn’t call it, the linesman did after he heard a stick hit the glass while everybody was looking at what was going on in the other end.” Under the new rule in the OHA, a suspension cannot be appealed if the suspen- sion is under six games and Poulstrup thinks that should be changed and plans to talk to the league’s referee- in-chief about it. “I’m hoping the score keeper made a mistake and instead of putting down GM Well, almost. (game misconduct) he put M, because that type of play shouldn’t result in a match penalty.” Poulstrup may have a Case in fact, because at the game Friday in Burlington the penalty to Brandt was announced as five minutes and a game misconduct. “It’s a new rule and it panicking maintains G.M. Poulstrup should be called. I have sympathy for the refs, it’s a fast tough game and they don’t make as many mis- takes as the players do, but a match penalty is too much.” Raiders host arch-rival Milton Merchants tonight, 7:30 p.m. at Gordon Alcott Arena. Derbys down Raiders By Mike Zrostek What appeared to be a soft part of the schedule for the Georgetown Chrysler Raiders in the Provincial Junior A West Division turned into a nightmare capped off by a 10-3 thrash- ing at the hands off the Streetsville Derbys Tuesday night. The Raiders will hope to put an end to their six-game losing streak tonight at Gordon Alcott Memorial Arena as they take on the third ace Milton Merchants, game time 7:30 m. p.m. It turns out there aren’t any soft spots in the West Division after losses to Oakville and now the Derbys, who were tied with the Raiders for fifth place in their division before the game. Both teams traded goals in the first as the Raiders once again scored the first goal of the game on a Ryan Brown goal with Ian Ellis and Randy Bond assisting. After Streetsville tied things, Will North replied for the Raiders but the Derbys came back 37 sec- onds later making it 2-2. Doug Sheppard scored his 8th of the year from Trevor Elinesky and Jason Parks giving the Raiders their last lead of the game — still in the first frame. From there the Derbys scored six goals in the final two periods, led by Jamie Wensley’s five assists. Overall, Streetsvile scored four power play goals and a short handed marker.
