I’m concerned as an indi- vidual by the power of gov- ernments to destroy and rip apart families under the guise of a ‘child’s rights’ | measure. This wolf in sheep’s clothing could, if passed, substantially under- mine the authority ‘of par- ents to exercise vitally important responsibilities towards their children, It currently awaits politi- cal expediency from the United States Senate and the United Nations. This bill called “The Rights of the Child” is a treaty designed to-over-rule all the laws of the countries that sign. it and Canada, under the PC ban- j ter already signed this treaty in 1991. If ratified, this treaty will undermine the family by granting to children a list of radical “rights” which would be primarily enforced dom of thought and associa- tion” and “the right to free- dom of expression.” Also within the confines of this treaty, the charter would give children the Tight to disregard parental authority, the state will determine the child’s “best interest”, all children under the treaty would immediate- a threat to family life ly be registered to ensure state and UN control over their development and severe limitations will be placed on the parents’ right to direct and train their chil- dren. We are in day and age where we are witnessing in front of our very eyes the deliberate destruction of the family, spelling an end to the family structure as we have known it for centuries. As a Christian and a candidate in this federal election, I’m concerned about the moral fibre and sanctity of the family in our country. I speak on behalf of all Christians who still believe in God and the reality of His Presence. We must preserve the sanctity of ‘the family in its entirety. It is a difficult job for any Political party to run this country of ours and I am not sure if anyone has the “key”. As a voter, it is easy to be disheartened and easy to criticize, but when your Party gets power - reality sets in. Just look at Bob Rae’s government. They were largely elected on a Protest vote and look what happened! Political agendas go out the window and those who made their Protest vote, join loudest in the chorus of criticism. My message is: vote for the person or party you choose but make it a Posi- tive vote. We assume that on Election Day we can go and cast our ballot without fear of physical interfer- ence or intimidation. We have a right to expect that the voters lists have been ared properly and that the counting of ballots will be done in a manner that will assure accuracy. We take for grant- ed that candidates of all beliefs have a right to bring their ideas and principles before the voting public for their scruti- ny. In other words, the exercise of our franchise, freely and openly, we take as a given, but how do-we stack up against our neighbors around the world? The truth is that we are a very rare commod- I Firstly, our country was created in legislation. and not revolution. The — tenets of peace, order and good govern- ment were part of our nation from the very beginning. We are privileged as candidates not to be dogged by the assassin’s bullet or by riots in the streets. We are privileged as voters to Continue a tradition that has existed for 125 years. To paraphrase Winston Churchill, the democratic system of government is the worst of all systems of government, except for every other stem. sy: Therefore, with all of its Perceived weaknesses, the democracy we take for granted is still the most prized way of life human beings have been able to devise for their well-being. However, we must all remember that this precious element in our lives is held onto only at a price. The price from time to time has involved sacrifice in war. This year, thanks to those who sac- tificed, it involves only the active efforts of thousands of caring people of all political stripes and of conscientious candidates who will once again restate our beliefs in the democratic Process, When Election Day comes around Monday, hopefully everyone will have had enough time and enough informa- tion placed before them to make a choice. Let us never forget that we are able to make the choice freely, without fear or concern of any kind other than for the future performance of the elect- ed candidate. On Election Day, your vote will pre- serve this precious yet sometimes frag- ile democracy.
