Page 14 — Halton Hills This Week; Wednesday: October 27, 1993 Rebels lose but maintain pride By Mike Zrostek You would expect a team that hasn’t won a game all year, with the football play- offs approaching, to roll over and play dead. The Georgetown District Hi School senior Rebels: have no intention of doing this despite a 30-3 loss Friday against’ Q.E.Park of Oakville. The score doesn’t reflect the play‘of the Rebels who were with Q.E. Park for the first three quarters before the eventual winners exploded for three touch- downs in the fourth quarter. The score wasn’t indicative of the play,” he concluded. Marinangeli said the Rebels came ready to play ¢ Designer Eyewear Guelphview Square Gulp h & Mountainview) for the second straight out- ing. He also gave Q.E. Park high marks for their play. “They had a little more experience and played dis- ciplined football. Their dou- ble slotted-I (formation) gave us a lot of trouble. We didn’t. know what to expect.” With the loss, the Rebels drop to 0-5 on the season and will head into the Tier II playoffs (fifth place to eight place teams meet) when they start in a couple of weeks. Marinangeli says Friday’s game at home against White Oaks is a big one as the out- come will determine if the Rebels face an easier oppo- nent in the playoffs. Redmen, scramble for a loose ball during photo by Simon Wilson/HHTW Redmen and Rebels in real barnburner By Ellen Piehl Special to HHTW The Acton High Redmen senior girls basketball team lost a wild one at home last Thursday afternoon as the Georgetown District High School Rebels won 36-35. That allowed the Rebels to take a one-point lead. - The Rebels scored another two points shortly thereafter to take a 7-4 lead. But the Redmen battled back, though, and scored another two points to cut the rebels lead to 7-6. Near the end of the first quarter, Acton’s offense start- ed to pick up a bit. Acton got the lead back again when Shari Patenaude scored two consecutive bas- kets in a row to make it 12-9, At the end of the quarter, Acton led 14-10. It was pretty much the same in the second quarter. Both teams battled for supremacy throughout the whole quarter. At the end of the first-half, the Redmen led 19-17. As a result, Georgetown was awarded two foul shots, which won them the game. Top scorers for Acton’ were: Shelley Duponte (11 points), Jenny Goy (10 points), Shari Patenaude (8 points) and Shelly Hand (2 points).
