Robinson 15-10, 15- 10 Tuesday at Sheridan pie Rebels once again oe sound, almost eérror- * less volleyball in the match as they were never really threatened by Robinson who had defeated GDHS in the final regular season game that determined first place. Coach Bob\McKay said the Rebels followed the game plan coming in and adjusted when they had to. “After their tip we wanted to get the ball, set it and get it back over as fast as possi- ble and we did that. We also had to move the back court up closer to the middle. because they (Robinson) were putting the ball in the center of the court.” After an hour wait due to the length of the previous match the Rebels weren’t effected and came out flying in game one building an early 7-2 lead, due to some incredible setting by Matt Brain and thunderous spikes by Ron ‘Harrison and Matt uchie. Robinson started to creep back into the game with the Rebels leading 11-7 but Andy Elliott served three Straight points including an ace that helped give the Rebels game one. Robinsonon got off to 4-1 and 7-3 leads in game two as the Rebels struggled a bit hitting shots into the net while Robinson continually dropped the ball in the cen- ter of the Rebels end. That’s when McKay called a time-out and the Rebels took over. Martin Sommer stuffed a Robinson spike attempt that appeared to spark. the Rebels, as they went on to tie the game at 8-8. Both teams scored twice more making it 10-10, as spikes decided the point out- come. Then a couple of missed Robinson shots and some big plays from David Sands, Andy Elliott and Brain gave the Rebels a 14-10 lead. Then with the contingent of teachers and students from GDHS ready for a cel- ebration Sands gave the Rebels the championship on a spike and the Rebels were Halton champs again. The Rebels last won the senior boys championship in 1989-90 and have been in the finals every year. It was especially special for Sands, in his final year at GDHS, who has missed seeing play- off action ne last two years. due to injuri “It’sa relict that we broke the jinx.
