reeve by hand some majority it is the same old story the slogan time for a change inevlt ably comes when an individual party or a government seeks to hold office after being in honorable posses slon for a reasonublp period of yeari the mart or the organizatlonmay be ever so efficient but the time cosnea when the electors begin to feel that it is time for a change honbrs should not be monopolized no ono man or party possesses all the ability or virtue or integrity and without ex ception in public life if the holder of these positions of honor fails to have his cor to the ground to interpret this signs of the times and persists in seeking further honors the result is i always disappointment and perhaps chagrin this has been the result in many places it has repeatedly been the result in acton it is just now the experience of george barbei who has occupied the position of chief magistrate of acton for seven consecutivb years ho was elected to the reeveshlp seven years ago and repeatedly since has been tendered the position by tho town by acclamation in 1924 air barber was honored with the wardensblp of the county it being by rotation the year for actons representative to receive the covet ted position at tbe end of 1924 the psychological time had conns when mr barber should have retired from municipal position at least from the office of reeve the electors had begun to talk of ft being time for a change if he had retired tbten and given some other member of the council an opportunity for prefer ment his vacating of the office wout id have been attended with an unbroken record and with the good will of cltl- xens generally failing to interpret the feelings of tho electorate the late reeve instead of graciously retiring in favor of councillor mason after he had been nominated forced an elec- tion and was responsible for the ex pense necessarily incurred therein- the result is exactly what was ex- pected would come soo or later m ba has gunc flo in a rather social and personal humiliating defeat and this is in face of the fact that in the adminis tration of the office of reeve ho has given generously of his time and tal ents in official service
